EarDub

Free Chrome extension · Updated 2026-10-08

A Udemy translator that speaks every lecture in your language

EarDub turns the instructor's English into natural speech in your language, in step with the lesson. Watch the code, the slides and the demo instead of chasing subtitles — on any Udemy course with captions.

Why a Udemy subtitles translator is not enough

Most of Udemy's catalogue is taught in English, and the usual fix is a Udemy subtitles translator: the caption bar gets swapped for your language and you read the course.

That works for a talking head. It breaks down the moment the instructor starts typing, drawing or clicking through software — exactly the parts of a course you paid for. Your eyes can be on the subtitles or on the screen, not both, and after an hour of lectures reading becomes the tiring part of learning.

Hearing the lecture in your own language removes that trade-off. You follow the explanation with your ears and keep your eyes on what the instructor is doing.

How the Udemy translate extension works

Three steps, and only the first one happens once.

  1. 1

Add EarDub to Chrome and allow it on Udemy

Open any Udemy page and click the EarDub icon. The first time, Chrome asks whether EarDub may run on udemy.com. That one prompt is the only setup, and EarDub stays off every other site.

  2. 2

Open a lecture and click the EarDub button

The button sits on the Udemy video player. EarDub reads the lecture's captions, rebuilds them into full sentences and translates them with the course topic in mind.

  3. 3

Listen to the lecture in your language

A natural AI voice speaks the translation in step with the video. Keep the instructor's own voice quietly underneath, and turn on bilingual subtitles if you want to see the original terms.

What makes EarDub a Udemy translator built for learning

In sync with the lecture

Each sentence is spoken while the instructor is saying it, so the voice matches what is happening on screen. Pause or jump back and the dub follows.

Whole sentences, clear technical terms

Caption fragments are rebuilt into full sentences before translation, and terms like function names, commands and product names stay recognisable instead of being translated word by word.

The instructor stays in the mix

Separate volume controls let you keep the original voice playing quietly underneath — useful when you want to hear how a term is actually pronounced.

Bilingual subtitles when you need them

Show the translated line, the original line, or both. Handy for copying an exact command or checking a word you will meet again in the docs.

Translate a Udemy course into 17 languages

Choose the language you want to hear and every lecture is dubbed into it: English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Russian, Polish, Turkish, Arabic, Hindi, Indonesian, Vietnamese, Japanese, Korean, and Chinese (Mandarin, Cantonese and Traditional).

Each language has several natural voices to choose from, so a long course in Hindi, Vietnamese or Indonesian does not have to sound like a robot reading a manual.

Is the Udemy translator extension free?

Yes. Every account gets 30 minutes of dubbing a day at no cost, for up to 3 lectures a day, with no credit card. All languages, bilingual subtitles and audio mixing are included.

Each lecture counts as one video. If you are working through a course every day, Basic ($9.99 a month) covers 60 hours a month and up to 20 lectures a day. Pro ($19.99 a month) has no published time or daily limit.

Usage is counted by the minutes you actually dub. Pausing, seeking or rewatching a part you already dubbed costs nothing extra. See all plans.

Which Udemy courses can be translated

Worth knowing before you install:

  • The lecture needs captions. Most Udemy courses have them, including automatically generated English captions. If the CC button on the player has no languages, EarDub has nothing to translate.
  • You need to be signed in to Udemy and enrolled in the course, the same as for watching it.
  • It works in desktop Chrome; Edge and other Chromium browsers generally work too. Udemy's mobile apps are not supported.

Udemy translator FAQ

Does the Udemy translator translate the audio or only the subtitles?

The audio. EarDub speaks the lecture in your language with an AI voice, timed to the video, so you can keep your eyes on the code, slides or demo. Translated subtitles are there too if you want them.

Can I translate a Udemy course into Hindi, Spanish or Portuguese?

Yes. A Udemy course can be dubbed into any of EarDub's 17 languages, including Hindi, Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, Indonesian, Vietnamese, Japanese, Korean and Chinese. You pick the language once in the extension and every lecture uses it.

Do I have to click the button on every lecture?

No. While a dub is on, moving to the next lecture of the same course — yourself or through Udemy's autoplay — carries the dub on as soon as the new video loads. Click the button again whenever you want the original audio back.

Why does Chrome ask for access to udemy.com?

EarDub needs to read the lecture's caption file and place its button on the player. Chrome asks before any extension can do that on a site. EarDub only asks for Udemy (and udemycdn.com, where Udemy stores caption files), and only when you choose to use it there.

Do I need to download or upload the course?

No. EarDub works inside the Udemy player you already have open. Nothing is downloaded, nothing is uploaded, and the course stays on Udemy.

Can I translate a Udemy course to English?

Yes, if the course has captions. Many courses taught in Spanish, Portuguese, Japanese or other languages include captions, and EarDub can dub them into English the same way.
