Watch Bilibili in English with subtitles and an AI voice

EarDub is a Bilibili translator that speaks the video to you. It listens to the Chinese audio, translates it into English or any of 75 languages and reads it in a natural voice, in step with the player, with English or bilingual subtitles on screen. It works even when the video has no subtitles at all.

Also available for Microsoft Edge

Translate Bilibili videos to English, not just the page around them

Bilibili is where Chinese creators publish tutorials, tech reviews, lectures, gaming guides, vlogs and animation. Almost all of it is in Chinese, and most videos come with no subtitles, let alone English ones. Translating the page doesn't help much: the title and comments turn into English, but the video itself is still spoken in Chinese.

A Bilibili video translator has to work on the sound. EarDub recognizes what is being said, joins it into complete sentences, translates them with the topic of the whole video in mind and plays an English voice as the speaker talks. You keep watching the picture: the code, the game, the gadget on the desk.

Because it starts from the audio, EarDub doesn't depend on the uploader adding subtitles. A ten-minute review or an hour-long talk with no subtitles is translated just the same.

How to translate Bilibili to English with EarDub

Setup is one click in your browser. After that it is one button per video.

  1. 1

Add EarDub to Chrome or Edge and allow it on Bilibili

Open a video on bilibili.com and click the EarDub icon. The first time, the browser asks whether EarDub may run on bilibili.com. Allow it once and the EarDub button appears on the Bilibili player from then on.

  2. 2

Pick English (or any of 75 languages) and press the EarDub button

EarDub listens to the video's Chinese audio, turns it into text, joins it into full sentences and translates them with the rest of the video in mind.

  3. 3

Watch while an AI voice speaks the video in English

Each sentence is voiced as the speaker says it, with the original audio softly underneath. Show bilingual subtitles to see the Chinese and the English together.

Bilibili English subtitles, even when the video has none

The question people ask most is how to get English subtitles on Bilibili. Bilibili shows them only when the uploader made them, and the CC menu is empty on most videos. EarDub writes its own: as it recognizes and translates each sentence, it can show the English line, the Chinese line, or both stacked, sized and placed where you like on the player.

This works like a Bilibili auto translate button for the video itself. You don't search for a subbed re-upload or wait for a fan translation; you open the original video and press the button.

Prefer reading? Turn the voice down and keep the bilingual subtitles: EarDub then works as a Bilibili subtitle translator. Prefer listening? Hide the subtitles and let the voice carry it.

Listen to Bilibili in English: AI dubbing that keeps up with the video

Recognized ahead of the picture

EarDub reads the audio the player has already loaded and recognizes it ahead of the playhead, so the English voice is ready when the speaker gets there.

Full sentences, not word-for-word

Spoken Chinese is joined into complete sentences before translation, so explanations keep their logic and names and terms stay consistent through the video.

Pause, skip and speed up

Jump to another part, pause, or play at 1.25x. The dub follows the player instead of running on its own clock.

300+ natural voices

Pick a male or female English voice with the accent you like (US, UK, Australian, Indian…), or any of 75 languages, and switch mid-video.

The Bilibili to English extension for Chrome and Edge

EarDub is a browser extension for desktop Chrome and Microsoft Edge. You allow it on bilibili.com once, and from then on its button sits in the Bilibili player next to the subtitle and fullscreen buttons. It does nothing on Bilibili until you press it.

  • Works on regular bilibili.com videos: tech, education, gaming, vlogs, talks and interviews, including multi-part videos (each part is its own video).
  • Translates into English and 74 other languages, from Chinese and the other languages people speak on Bilibili.
  • No download, no upload, no copying links into another website: it works inside the player while you watch.
  • Keeps the original voice underneath at a volume you choose, so you can still hear tone and names.

Is the Bilibili translator free?

EarDub is free to install, and a free account dubs captioned videos on YouTube and other sites for 30 minutes a day. Bilibili is different: its videos are dubbed from their speech, and speech recognition is part of the paid plans.

Basic ($9.99 a month) covers 60 hours of dubbing a month, videos up to 3 hours and no daily limit on videos without subtitles. Pro ($19.99 a month) has no published time or video-length limit.

If you try a Bilibili video on the free plan, EarDub tells you so in the player and offers the upgrade; nothing is charged without your checkout. See all plans.

What the Bilibili translator can't do

  • Bangumi, paid courses and other copy-protected Bilibili content may not play its audio to extensions, and then it can't be dubbed.
  • Everyone in a video shares the voice you pick; EarDub doesn't give each speaker their own voice.
  • Live streams and danmaku comments are not translated.
  • It runs in desktop Chrome and Edge. The Bilibili phone app and mobile browsers are not supported.

Bilibili translator FAQ

How do I get English subtitles on Bilibili?

Bilibili only shows English subtitles when the uploader added them, and most videos on bilibili.com have none. With EarDub you don't need them: it recognizes the speech, translates it and shows English subtitles (or bilingual Chinese and English subtitles) while an AI voice reads them. Turn the subtitles on or off from the EarDub menu.

Is Bilibili available in English?

Bilibili runs a separate international service, bilibili.tv, with its own catalog and an English interface. The main site, bilibili.com, where most creators upload, is in Chinese, and its videos are in Chinese. EarDub works on bilibili.com videos and lets you listen to them in English.

Does the Bilibili translator work on videos without subtitles?

Yes. That is how it works on Bilibili: EarDub listens to the audio itself, so a video with no subtitles at all can be dubbed. This uses EarDub's speech recognition, which is included in the Basic and Pro plans.

Is the Bilibili translator free?

Installing EarDub and creating an account is free, and the free plan dubs captioned videos on YouTube and other sites for 30 minutes a day. Dubbing Bilibili videos relies on speech recognition, which is part of the Basic ($9.99 a month) and Pro ($19.99 a month) plans, with no daily limit on such videos.

How is EarDub different from BiliBili To English or Immersive Translate?

Those tools translate text on the page: titles, comments, the interface and existing subtitles. EarDub translates what is said in the video and speaks it in a natural voice, in sync with the player, and it works when the video has no subtitles. Many viewers use a page translator for comments and EarDub for the video itself.

Which languages can I translate Bilibili videos into?

75 languages, including English (US and UK), Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Russian, Vietnamese, Thai, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Arabic and Hindi, with 300+ AI voices.

Do I need to download Bilibili videos?

No. The Bilibili translate extension works inside the Bilibili player while you watch. Nothing is downloaded, and you don't upload anything anywhere.

Is EarDub real time?

Yes, and it stays in sync with the picture. Some tools translate by listening to the video as it plays, so their voice can only start after the speaker has finished: it always trails the picture by a second or two, most of all on videos without captions. EarDub prepares each sentence before it is said, from the captions' timing or, when there are none, by recognizing the audio the player has already loaded ahead of you. Each dubbed sentence starts when the speaker starts. And unlike dubbing tools for creators, there is nothing to upload and nothing to wait for: the dub starts within seconds and keeps generating just ahead of where you are watching, and it follows you when you pause or skip.

More answers about plans, troubleshooting and privacy are in thehelp guide. EarDub also works as a YouTube video translator and on X (Twitter) videos; see the video translator extension for every site it supports.
