EarDub

Chrome and Edge extension · Updated 2026-10-13

Translate X videos while you watch, no download needed

EarDub translates videos on X (Twitter) into your language and speaks them in a natural AI voice, right in the post or your timeline. Press the button on the video and listen: no downloading, no uploading, no switching to another website.

Also available for Microsoft Edge

A Twitter video translator that works inside X

X translates posts with one click, but the video under the post stays in its original language. Interviews, product demos, news clips, talks and long-form videos are posted in every language, and most of them come without captions.

The usual way to translate a Twitter video is a detour: download it with one tool, upload it to an online video translator, wait for it to process, then watch the result somewhere else. By then the conversation under the post has moved on.

EarDub skips the detour. It runs on x.com itself, on the video you are watching, and translates it as it plays. Scroll to the next post and press the button again.

How to translate an X video with EarDub

One click to set up; after that, one button per video.

  1. 1

Add EarDub to Chrome or Edge and allow it on X

Open x.com and click the EarDub icon. The first time, the browser asks whether EarDub may run on x.com. Allow it once and the EarDub button appears on X videos from then on.

  2. 2

Play a video and press the EarDub button

On a post, in your timeline or full screen. EarDub uses the video's captions when it has them, and otherwise listens to the speech itself.

  3. 3

Hear the video in your language

An AI voice speaks each sentence in your language as it is said, with the original audio softly underneath and bilingual subtitles if you want them.

Dub an X video into your language

From captions or from speech

If the video has captions, EarDub translates them. If it has none, EarDub recognizes what is said, ahead of the playhead, and translates that.

Spoken, not just subtitled

A natural AI voice reads each sentence as the speaker says it, so you can watch the speaker, the screen or the demo instead of a caption bar.

Keeps up with the video

Pause, seek or speed up to 1.25x and the dub follows the player. Videos of 20 minutes and longer work too.

Bilingual subtitles

Show the translation, the original, or both, and drag them anywhere on the video so they never cover what matters.

The X translator extension for Chrome and Edge

EarDub is a browser extension for desktop Chrome and Microsoft Edge. Allow it on x.com once and its button appears on the video you are watching, whether it is a single post or a video in your timeline. It stays idle until you press it.

  • Translates into 75 languages with 300+ AI voices, male and female, with regional accents.
  • Works from the language the video is spoken in, detected automatically: English, Japanese, Spanish, Chinese, Arabic and many more.
  • Doesn't touch your account: no posting, no following, no access to your messages.
  • Keeps the original voice underneath at a volume you choose.

Is it free to translate X videos?

EarDub is free to install, and a free account dubs videos that have captions for 30 minutes a day, up to 3 videos a day, with no credit card.

Videos without captions, which are common on X, are dubbed by speech recognition on the paid plans: Basic ($9.99 a month, 60 hours a month) and Pro ($19.99 a month, no published limit), with no daily limit on such videos.

On the free plan, EarDub tells you in the player when a video needs a paid plan. See all plans.

What it can't translate on X

  • Live broadcasts and Spaces audio aren't translated; recorded videos are.
  • Everyone in a video shares the voice you pick.
  • It runs in desktop Chrome and Edge, not in the X app on phones.
  • Text inside the picture, such as burned-in titles, isn't translated; the speech is.

X video translator FAQ

How do I translate a video on X (Twitter)?

X translates the text of a post, but not what is said in a video. With EarDub installed and allowed on x.com, press the EarDub button on the video: it translates the speech into your language and reads it in a natural voice while the video plays.

Can I translate X videos without downloading them?

Yes. Most X video translators ask you to download the video or paste its link into another website, wait for it to be processed and then watch the result there. EarDub works inside X, on the video you are already watching, and nothing is downloaded or uploaded.

Does it work on X videos without captions?

Yes. Many videos on X have no captions; EarDub then recognizes the speech itself. Videos without captions are dubbed on the Basic and Pro plans. Videos that do have captions can be dubbed on the free plan too.

Is the X video translator free?

EarDub is free to install, and the free plan dubs captioned videos for 30 minutes a day, up to 3 videos a day. Dubbing videos without captions, by speech recognition, is part of the Basic ($9.99 a month) and Pro ($19.99 a month) plans.

Which languages can I translate X videos into?

75 languages, including English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Russian, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Vietnamese, Indonesian, Thai, Arabic and Hindi, with 300+ AI voices. EarDub also detects the language the video is spoken in.

Does EarDub read or post anything on my X account?

No. It doesn't post, like, follow or read your messages. It only works on the video you choose to dub, and only on x.com after you allow it there.

Is EarDub real time?

Yes, and it stays in sync with the picture. Some tools translate by listening to the video as it plays, so their voice can only start after the speaker has finished: it always trails the picture by a second or two, most of all on videos without captions. EarDub prepares each sentence before it is said, from the captions' timing or, when there are none, by recognizing the audio the player has already loaded ahead of you. Each dubbed sentence starts when the speaker starts. And unlike dubbing tools for creators, there is nothing to upload and nothing to wait for: the dub starts within seconds and keeps generating just ahead of where you are watching, and it follows you when you pause or skip.

More answers about plans, troubleshooting and privacy are in thehelp guide. EarDub also works as a YouTube video translator and a Bilibili translator; see the video translator extension for every site it supports.
