Who makes EarDub
EarDub is an independent product, founded and built by Chris Cornell and run as a sole proprietorship based in China. It launched on the Chrome Web Store in June 2026 and on Microsoft Edge Add-ons in October 2026. It is not affiliated with YouTube, Google, Udemy or Coursera.

Why we built it
A lot of the most useful video on the internet, from tutorials and online courses to talks and interviews, is in a language many viewers only half follow. Subtitles help, but reading for an hour is tiring, and while you read you miss what is on the screen.
EarDub lets you listen instead. It is built for viewers rather than creators: there is nothing to upload or export, and it works on videos you didn't make, as long as they have captions.
What we care about
- Translation that reads like speech: captions are rebuilt into full sentences and translated with the context around them, not word by word.
- Honest limits: we say up front what EarDub can't do yet, from videos without captions to one voice for every speaker.
- Privacy: EarDub runs only where you use it, processes only the captions of videos you choose to dub, and doesn't sell your data.
The details are in the privacy policy and the terms of service.

What EarDub can't do yet
- Videos need captions. Auto-generated captions work, but a video with no captions at all can't be dubbed yet.
- Everyone in a video shares one voice. Captions don't say who is speaking, so a conversation between several people is read by the voice you picked.
- Some embedded players don't work yet, such as Vimeo videos embedded on other websites.
- On phones, EarDub works only in the Vivaldi browser on Android. iPhone, iPad and the YouTube app aren't supported.
