Free vs Paid YouTube Dubbing Extensions in 2026: Daily Limits, Languages and Price per Hour

Updated Store stats checked By

Disclosure: EarDub is our own product. We include it where it fits and say where other tools do better.

Short answer

A free plan is enough if you watch a few captioned videos a week. Pay when you follow a course every day, watch videos without captions, or watch videos longer than an hour. EarDub's free plan gives 30 minutes a day, up to 180 minutes a month, for captioned videos; Basic ($9.99 a month) gives 60 hours and adds videos without captions.

Disclosure: EarDub is our product. Everything about the other tools comes from their own Chrome Web Store listings, websites or help pages, linked where it's used and checked on October 23, 2026. Where another tool's free option fits better, we say so.

What each free plan gives you

Free plans differ in what they count: minutes a day, a one-time trial, or videos a day. They also differ in whether a video needs captions. Here is what each one publishes.

What paying costs per hour

A subscription costs the same whether you use it or not, so the cost per hour depends on how much you watch. We work it out for EarDub only, at three levels of use: every hour in the plan, about an hour a day (30 hours a month), and about 12 hours a month. For the other tools we show only what they publish.

When the free plan is enough

  • You watch now and then. EarDub's free 180 minutes a month cover about six 30-minute videos. That fits a few videos a week.
  • The video has captions. Caption-based free plans (EarDub, AutoDub, YouTube Dubbing) need a caption track. YouTube's auto-generated captions count.
  • The video already offers your language. If YouTube lists it under Settings → Audio track, you don't need an extension. Why many videos don't have one.
  • You only watch YouTube and your language is one of 42. AutoDub is free with no account and no daily limit, per its listing.
  • A basic voice is fine. DubMog's free Standard mode has no daily limit with a free account. It uses the browser's own voice and dubs into 38 languages in Chrome, per its guide.

When paying is worth it

  • You follow a course every day. An hour a day is about 30 hours a month. EarDub's free plan stops at 30 minutes a day and 180 minutes a month. Basic covers 60 hours for $9.99, which is $0.33 an hour at that pace.
  • The videos have no captions. Free caption-based plans can't dub them. EarDub Basic and Pro recognize the speech on YouTube, X, Bilibili, Gumroad, Udemy and most other sites; Coursera still needs captions. Tools that listen to the tab's audio also work without captions; DubTab's free use ends after its 15-minute trial. More: dubbing videos without subtitles.
  • The videos are long. EarDub's free plan takes videos up to 60 minutes. Basic takes up to 3 hours; Pro has no length limit. YouTube's own auto-dubbing skips videos over 120 minutes, per its help page.
  • You want a natural voice in more languages. DubMog's natural Pro Live voice is paid; its free mode uses the browser's voice, per its guide.

The catches in free plans

A monthly cap behind the daily limit

A daily limit can hide a monthly one. EarDub's free plan gives 30 minutes a day but stops at 180 minutes a month, so if you use the full 30 minutes every day, the month's allowance is gone after six days. DubTab's free plan is 15 minutes in total, once; its pricing says it doesn't reset.

Counting by video, not by minute

Some free plans count videos. YouTube Dubbing – Translate & Dub allows 5 videos a day, per its listing, so a 3-minute clip uses one just like a 2-hour lecture. EarDub counts both: up to 3 videos and 30 minutes a day. An hour-long video therefore takes two days of EarDub's free time.

No videos without captions

Caption-based tools read the video's caption track. Without one, the free plans of EarDub, AutoDub and YouTube Dubbing can't dub the video. Text burned into the picture isn't a caption track. On EarDub, videos without captions are a Basic and Pro feature. On YouTube Dubbing, AI subtitles are Premium; its site says they're prepared in the background and you get an email when they're ready. AutoDub's site says it can't transcribe the audio.

A different engine on the free plan

Some free plans use a simpler translation or voice than the paid plan. YouTube Dubbing's FAQ says free users get machine translation and one set of voices, while AI translation and another set of voices need Premium. DubMog's free Standard mode uses the browser's own voice. EarDub's free plan uses the same context-aware translation as Basic and Pro.

Try free first, then decide

Use a free plan for a week on the videos you actually watch. Note how many minutes you use, whether your videos have captions, and how long they are. If you run out before the week ends, or your videos have no captions, a paid plan is worth a look. For which extension to pick, see our comparison of YouTube dubbing extensions and EarDub vs AutoDub.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a completely free YouTube dubbing extension?

Yes. AutoDub is free with no account and no daily limit, per its listing, for YouTube videos with captions. DubMog's Standard mode is free with no daily limit once you make a free account, using the browser's own voice. YouTube's built-in auto-dubbing is free on eligible videos. EarDub's free plan gives 30 minutes a day, up to 180 minutes a month.

Can I dub videos without captions for free?

Not with the caption-based free plans: EarDub, AutoDub and YouTube Dubbing need a caption track. Tools that listen to the tab's audio work without captions; DubMog's free Standard mode does, and DubTab offers a one-time 15-minute trial. On EarDub, videos without captions need Basic or Pro.

How much does an hour of dubbing cost on EarDub?

It depends on how much you watch. Basic is $9.99 a month for up to 60 hours: $0.17 an hour if you use all of it, $0.33 at about an hour a day. Billed yearly ($83), it's $0.12 an hour at full use. Pro is $19.99 a month or $155 a year with no time limit (fair use). See pricing.

When does EarDub's free allowance reset?

The 30 minutes and 3 videos reset at the start of each UTC day. The 180-minute monthly cap resets each month. Unused minutes don't carry over.

Hear YouTube in your language

EarDub dubs videos into 75 languages with natural AI voices, from their captions or, on Basic and Pro, from their speech. Free to install, 30 minutes of dubbing every day after you sign in, no credit card.
