What's new in EarDub
Updates to the EarDub browser extension and plans, newest first: new sites, languages, voices, features and fixes you will notice.
Last updated
October 2026
- EarDub is now available on Microsoft Edge Add-ons, so Edge users can install it from Microsoft's own store.
- Added Udemy and Coursera: dub course lectures after allowing the site once from the EarDub menu, and the dub carries on into the next lecture of the same course (v0.1.21).
- Added dubbing on other sites: on any page with a captioned video, such as TED or Wistia-hosted course sites, choose “Dub this video” from the EarDub menu. The dub button on the player now turns dubbing on and off and sits at the player's bottom-right corner on every site (v0.1.21).
- Added Android support: dub YouTube on Android phones in the Vivaldi browser, with a separate subtitle size for phones (v0.1.22).
- Added a welcome page and a first-run hint for new users, and the dub language now defaults to your browser language (English if it isn't supported) instead of Chinese (v0.1.20).
- Translations now use the whole video as context: the title, the surrounding lines, a glossary of names and terms for each video, and a style guide for each of the 18 languages, so idioms, names and sentence order read more naturally.
- Added more free voices, including extra voices for Vietnamese, Hindi, Indonesian and Japanese; fixed an Italian voice that produced no audio; and a dub that falls behind the video now catches up faster (v0.1.18).
- When a plan limit stops a dub, the player now shows a card in your dubbing language that says which limit was reached and when free dubbing comes back, and EarDub's messages now appear in your language instead of Chinese.
September 2026
- Plans simplified to Free, Basic ($9.99 a month) and Pro ($19.99 a month). The free plan changed from 1 hour a month to 30 minutes of dubbing every day, for up to 3 videos a day of up to 60 minutes each.
- Added yearly billing: Basic at $89 a year and Pro at $179 a year, about 3 months free. Changing plans now replaces your current subscription instead of starting a second one (v0.1.15).
- Sign in with Google, Microsoft or email directly from the EarDub menu (v0.1.13).
- The EarDub menu is now available in Arabic (right-to-left), Turkish, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian and Vietnamese, in addition to English, Chinese, Japanese and Korean.
- Added Saudi, UAE and Jordanian Arabic voices alongside the Egyptian ones.
- Some voices are now reserved for paid plans and marked “Member” in the voice list.
- Dubbing now keeps going when the video plays in a background tab or after the extension updates, and a line that fails to load is retried in the same voice instead of being read by a different one.
- Dubbed lines now start in step with their captions, long subtitles are split into pages, and the video keeps playing while the dub gets ready.
July 2026
- Cantonese is back as a dubbing language, bringing the total to 18 languages (v0.1.8).
June 2026
- EarDub launched on the Chrome Web Store (v0.1.4), dubbing captioned YouTube videos into English, Mandarin Chinese, Cantonese, Traditional Chinese, Japanese and Korean with AI voices.
- Added 12 dubbing languages: Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Russian, Polish, Turkish, Arabic, Hindi, Indonesian and Vietnamese. Cantonese was paused in this release, which shipped 17 languages (v0.1.7).
- Fixed a bug where a YouTube video could freeze after buffering while the dub stayed on “loading”, and dubs now generate faster (v0.1.7).
- Improved timing for languages that take longer to say than English, such as Arabic, Hindi and Indonesian, and Arabic subtitles now display right to left.
- Redesigned the EarDub menu, now available in English, Chinese, Japanese and Korean, with each dubbing language listed by its own name.
- Added the Shift+D keyboard shortcut to start dubbing.
- Free accounts can dub up to 3 different videos a day; rewatching a video you already dubbed that day doesn't count again.
